My Sickle Cell Disease Warrior, Blood Moon: Cosplaying to Cope

Concept Art by @jennybrozek_art

There is an inner warrior that lies within each and every one of us.

People who live with sickle cell disease (SCD) are constantly fighting to overcome whatever complications and challenges that head our way. For this reason, we may identify ourselves as Sickle Cell Warriors. There are millions of sickle cell warriors worldwide.

As someone who lives with SCD, cosplay – an activity where folks develop and wear costumes – helps me cope with my chronic illness. For me, cosplay is therapeutic – it is an emotional outlet.

Blood Moon is my Sickle Cell Warrior. Blood Moon symbolizes hope, strength, and perseverance to the sickle cell community all around the world, encouraging warriors to continue fighting and spread awareness about this painful blood disorder.

Thanks to @eossred_is__cosplaying  for creating this amazing armour and scythe set and @jennybrozek_art for bringing the concept I had in mind to life through her beautiful art skills! I really appreciate it ❤️
