Conquering Anxiety and Depression for a Healthier You: A Free Workshop for Young Adults with Sickle Cell Disease

The University Health Network's Red Blood Cell Disorders Clinic and the Centre for Mental Health are delighted to partner with Unsinkable to provide a free workshop!

This workshop is for young people (ages 18 to 35) with sickle cell disease. It will take place online on Wednesday February 19, 2025 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM.

What is the workshop about?

The workshop is called “Conquering Anxiety and Depression for a Healthier You.”

It will explore skills to cope with anxiety and depression. It will be a space to connect with other young people with sickle cell disease for meaningful conversations.


We will discuss:

  • Wellness techniques and coping skills for anxiety and depression

  • Diverse perspectives and lived experiences

  • Building resiliency and self-empowerment

  • Resources and tools for wellbeing

Meet the Facilitators!

Maria Estrada (She/Her) is the manager of the youth program at Unsinkable. Maria uses personal experiences with mental health challenges to advocate, educate, and support others.

Logan Sparling (He/Him) is a psychology student. Logan is also a coordinator at Just Be You and aims to support and grow in his ability to help others.

Mariela Andrea (She/Her) is the program coordinator for the Wellness Group at Unsinkable Youth. Mariela studies Psychology at York University and is passionate about mental health advocacy.

Nikita Baxi (She/Her) is a psychology student. She shares her journey with anxiety and depression, emphasizing self-compassion and coping strategies.
