Wholistic Health Series - Session #4: Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation

On June 15, 2023, UHN’s RBCD clinic hosted the fourth session of the Wholistic Health Series with Mindfulness Advocate, Reena Ruparelia. This session explored mindfulness meditation practices and its benefits for people with Sickle Cell Disease, Thalassemia, and other Red Blood Cell Disorders.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness about fully being present – to attend to what’s happening and what you are doing. Our minds often drift away from the present – sometimes, this can lead to anxiety. Mindfulness practices can gently bring us back to the present in a non-judgmental way.

Above all, mindfulness is an attitude – an approach to life!

Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.
